Maturity Scale
The Maturity Scale, developed as part of our Erasmus project, provides a structured framework to assess how schools and universities progress in integrating gender equality into teaching and education.
The scale follows a developmental pathway from Level 0 – No Awareness, where there is no recognition of the importance of gender and equality issues and discussions remain limited to broad or generic topics, through Level 1 – Aware, in which gender is acknowledged as an important issue but is addressed only at a general policy level without concrete plans or implementation. At Level 2 – Committed, institutions proactively recognize gender issues and begin to develop strategies and practices to integrate gender perspectives, although no dedicated resources or assets are yet allocated. Progressing to Level 3 – Active, organizations establish concrete actions and short-term goals, such as one-year plans, and develop standards and indicators to measure, track, and visualize progress. Finally, Level 4 – Promoting represents a mature stage in which institutions actively support agility and innovation at both macro and micro levels, with teachers and school leaders fully committed to embedding gender-sensitive policies and practices into everyday teaching and learning in a sustainable and continuous manner.
