Dissemination Event in Kiel
The Computer Science Research Group at Kiel University hosted the Erasmus+ Project Dissemination Meeting for BBC: Breaking Boundaries in K-12 Classrooms – Fostering Gender Inclusion in STEM Teaching on August 27–28 at Seeburg, Kiel, with participants joining us from Morocco, Sweden, the Netherlands, Switzerland, and Türkiye. The event brought together educators, researchers, and stakeholders from across Europe and beyond to explore strategies for building more inclusive STEM classrooms.
A highlight of the dissemination seminar was the series of keynote talks delivered by international experts. Each speaker brought unique perspectives on fostering gender inclusion and equity in STEM education, offering both theoretical insights and practical strategies. Together, the talks inspired participants to reflect on their own practices and consider new approaches to building more inclusive learning environments.
We were delighted to feature three inspiring talks:
✨ Alicia Takaoka, Erasmus University, Netherlands
“Community Inclusion in STEAM Project Development: Best Practices and Lessons Learned”
✨ Assist. Prof. Hatice Turan Bora, Başkent University, Türkiye
“Teachers as Change Makers: Leading the Way in Gender-Inclusive STEM”
✨ Tina Vrieler, Uppsala University, Sweden
“Advancing Social Justice in the STEM Classroom”
The meeting brought together K-12 teachers, school leaders, and academics to share ideas, strengthen networks, and disseminate the project’s outcomes.
This transnational and cross-sectoral initiative engages teachers, school leaders, and pre-service teacher trainers to foster gender-inclusive STEM education at the K-12 level. Through participatory design workshops and focus groups, we explore best practices, raise awareness, and develop a maturity scale for gender equality in schools.

UNESCO Publication
Our colleague Hasnââ CHAABI, an award-winning For Women in Science (FWIS) from the L’Oréal-UNESCO foundation, was invited to Join UNESCO in Call to Action "Closing the Gender Gap in Science" and present our activities and sharing your insights on advancing gender equality in science by promoting inclusivity and equitable participation in science.
The organisers were interested to feature our initiative BBC: Breaking Boundaries in K-12 Classrooms: Fostering Gender Inclusion in STEM Teaching as an inspiring example of advancing gender equality and fostering inclusive scientific communities. And this resulted in the following publication on the link.
The UNESCO community was kind enough to help us share our project and to pass on our inclusion message (as it is one of UNESCO's core values) and break boundaries in more classrooms.

womENcourage 2025 Workshop
On 18 September, participants gathered for an interactive workshop that invited them to take a closer look at the many layers of diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) in our universities and teaching.
Rather than staying abstract, the session guided participants through a hands-on exercise using a maturity scale, developed by LinkingUniversity, to map how different countries and institutions approach these issues.
Please see our womENcourage Dissemination flyer to learn more about this dissemination.

European Community in Information Technology Publication
European Community in Information Technology (ERCIM) published a special issue with the theme of Inclusive Digital Futures. Our colleagues Rukiye Altin, Monica Landoni and Vivian Vimarlund wrote a section to disseminate our project. Please see the link to read more about our post and the special issue.
